Prestressing
Freyssinet has a certified prestressing system, intended for various applications of internal and external prestressing, for infrastructural and industrial, residential and other types of structures. In order to guarantee high quality service to all of its customers around the world, Freyssinet manufactures its anchors in-house, at its industrial pole Freyssinet Products Company (FPC) and manages a central bank of specialized equipment. At the same time, in accordance with the international requirements for ensuring the quality of prestressing works, Freyssinet has its own Prestressing Academy and carries out regular and continuous training of its employees. Freyssinet continuously works on improving products and technologies, and also has its own testing center and testing laboratory.
Stay Cables
Freyssinet is one of the world leaders in the field of cable-stayed bridges, with more than 400 structures built worldwide.
In this technology, which has been developing since the 70s of the last century, Freyssinet products represent a benchmark for the durability and safety of buildings, through:
– fatigue resistance
– high degree of corrosion protection through its invention of individually protected, fully wrapped strands
– easy control and monitoring
– easy maintenance.
In its range, Freyssinet offers materials and solutions for light structures as well as for long-span structures, through anchoring at both ends of the cables or through continuous cables guided through multihole saddles, with an exceptionally high degree of friction coefficient, thus ensure the application of the highest standards and recommendations for safety and durability.
Suspension Cables
The Freyssinet stay cable has been improved since its first applications to provide better fatigue resistance and durability; at the same time, research has been carried out to apply its benefits to other uses.
The Cohestrand® cable was thus developed to meet the needs of suspended structures, in which the loads are transferred to the suspension cables by means of collars and hangers. More recently, Cohestrand® has found a new area of application in suspended stadium roofs, where it offers architects unique flexibility and lightness and building owners a 100-year service life.
By producing its products in-house, Freyssinet ensures the highest level of quality and control of prestressing materials, and also offers a pro-active approach in monitoring and maintaining structures during operation.
The materials, depending on the application, have the appropriate attests, certificates and markings.
PT Slabs - Prestressed Floor Solutions
The company has unrivalled knowledge and expertise in public buildings construction, with numerous successful projects worldwide.
Prestressing by post-tensioning, which has already been commonly used in structures throughout the world for many years, is becoming increasingly widespread in the building sector. A growing number of architects, developers and design offices have understood its advantages and are using it to construct buildings.
Contemporary architectural trends, reflecting modern lifestyle, favor large uninterrupted floor areas, flexible internal layout and spaces that are easy to modify and move around in, while considerably improving the durability of buildings. These multiple requirements can be met through prestressing by post-tensioning, which makes it possible to achieve large unobstructed spans, with a minimum number of columns and reduced floor depths. Flexibility of application – made with light equipment – and the mechanical features of Freyssinet prestressing by post-tensioning, provide architects, consulting engineers, design offices and developers with a cost-effective solution for designing floors and terraces in a wide variety of projects:
– office or residential buildings;
– underground car parks and multistorey car parks;
– hospitals;
– schools;
– business centres;
– industrial buildings;
– sports buildings;
– special structures (multiple stage settling basins, storage reservoirs).
Bearings
Freyssinet offers a complete range of bearings designed to successfully respond to the operating limitations of any structure, meeting all international standards. Apart from the connection between piers and top plates of bridges, Freyssinet bearings can also be used on other types of structures, such as stadiums, pipelines, buildings. All Freyssinet bearings are subject to rigorous internal and external controls at all stages of production, ensuring the continuity of the CE mark on all Freyssinet products.
Freyssinet’s design team offers the most optimal solutions for each type of construction, according to the projected needs, as well as the required standards. The company also specializes in bearing inspection and maintenance/replacement.
Elastomeric Bearings
Elastomeric bearings absorb moderate loads while allowing significant rotational movement. Freyssinet offers natural and synthetic rubber bearings to meet various national and international standards (EN, BS, AASHTO, DIN,..). The quality of the production of these bearings is guaranteed through appropriate formulas, control of mixtures and of the surface treatment of the steel, as well as through the manufacturing and modeling procedures.
Rigorous internal and external inspections are carried out at all stages of production, ensuring the continuity of CE marking on Freyssinet products.
TETRON pot bearings, spherical and special mechanical bearings
Freyssinet has its own range of pot and spherical bearings, TETRON® bearings. Freyssinet pot bearings are characterized by moderate sizes, tailor-made to the project, adaptability to different standards, cost-efficiency, diversity of purposes (ex. as an anti-sliding or lifting system). All their parts, including the PTFE sliding pad, have CE mark.
Freyssinet spherical bearings are characterized by the use of a new material as a sliding pad instead of pure PTFE, which is the ISOGLIDE® material which in many cases allows a reduction in bearing dimensions, a coefficient of friction <2% in a moderate temperature range, a coefficient of friction <3.5% at very low temperatures and 5 times the durability of PTFE, with particular durability at low temperatures, which significantly extends the life of the bearing. The bearings are adjustable to all national and international standards and have the CE marking. Special bearings used to receive only horizontal forces, oscillatory bearings, etc.
Expansion Joints
Freyssinet’s expansion joints are designed to allow continuous traffic between two structures by accommodating any movements in the structures caused by creep, shrinkage, temperature variations and deformation during service.
The expansion joint is without doubt the element under most strain in an engineering structure. As an expert in managing the functionalities and stresses to which expansion joints are subjected, Freyssinet develops products designed to meet specific site and climate conditions and specific operational conditions.
Freyssinet offers an extensive range of small and large-movement, bituminous, metal, elastomeric and modular expansion joints for road and railway structures.
Earthquake Protection Equipment
As one of the pioneers in the development of seismic protection equipment, Freyssinet offers a complete range of products and related services for seismic protection, well known under the name ISOSISM®.
These products are widely used in new buildings, repair and rehabilitation of existing buildings, repair and rehabilitation of buildings after an earthquake, in various types of buildings such as bridges and viaducts, industrial and energy plants, buildings of cultural importance, hospitals, schools,… The solutions, which are “tailor-made” for each project, also allow initial savings of 15% during construction, as well as reduced costs for rehabilitation after an earthquake. The use of earthquake protection equipment allows for significant relief of the upper and lower structures. The bearings can be designed the way to obey to different national and international standards and have the CE marking.
Reinforced Earth Terre Armée
The original reinforced earth technology.
Reinforced Earth® structures combine select and controlled granular backfill with steel or geosynthetic tensile reinforcements and a modular facing system, generally comprised of precast concrete panels, welded wire mesh or semi-elliptical steel panels. This ideal combination creates a long-lasting gravity retaining structure.
This technology can be adapted to suit retaining walls of any height. It is also capable of supporting major dead and live loads imposed by the associated structures, vehicles or other equipment. By building stable walls capable of bearing heavy loads with little settlement, Reinforced Earth® can be extended to abutments directly supporting bridge decks. Thanks to the flexibility of the Reinforced Earth® technology, bridge abutments can be built on compressible ground, mostly without any need for deep foundations. Reinforced Earth® boasts many advantages for this type of construction. Reinforced Earth® integral abutments eliminate or reduce the need for structural bearings and expansion joints, which significantly reduces operating and maintenance costs.
With many bridges, the central section of the bridge can be supported directly by the reinforced earth abutment, which eliminates the need for piers and piles to support the bridge’s central section. Ever since its invention, Reinforced Earth® has been used in the construction of road structures, motorways and bridge abutments, which often means cutting through uneven terrain and working with poor soil conditions and rocky or unstable slopes. Reinforced Earth® was first used to build single-tier or multi-tier retaining walls alongside roads.
It is also used in many other types of applications for road structures:
– Viaduct access ramps,
– Complex multi-level interchanges,
– Structures on uneven terrain,
– Road widening,
– Bridge abutments.
